What is Intervention/Title I Reading?

 

What is Intervention?

  • Intervention is a federally-funded tutorial program designed to serve students in academic need.
  • It is small group instruction (30 minutes daily), using a focused intensive intervention program that corresponds with the core reading program used in the classroom.
  • Students are selected on based on the following criteria: DIBELS scores (letter naming fluency and initial sound fluency), Pre-K Assessment, STAR Early Literacy Assessment, classroom performance, classroom assessments, and teacher recommendation.
  • These services are free and occur during the school day.

 

What if my child qualifies?

  • You will be notified by your child’s teacher.
  • You will then meet with the Intervention teacher, Mrs. Calton at the Annual Meeting in September.  
  • You will be asked to complete the following forms:

-Disclaimer Form (giving permission or declining services)

-School to Home Compact (an agreement signed by the parent, Title I teacher and principal)

-Beginning of the Year Survey (used for planning parent workshops during the school year)

  • You will receive a copy of the Muscle Shoals City Schools and Howell Graves Preschool Parental Involvement Policy, Desired Outcomes, and Calendar of Events.

What can I expect?

  • You will receive progress updates during the school year.
  • You will be asked to participate in parental involvement workshops where information will be shared to help you to better help your child.  Past workshops have focused on: Raising a Kindergartener, Using Everyday Items for Learning, and Creating Confident Children.
