Reopening Plan in Response to COVID-19

    Dear MSCS faMily,

**Last minute addition to this message**
In light of the Governor's health order on masking in public (issued earlier today, 7/15/2020, and effective at 5:00 p.m. on 7/16/2020, this section of our plan on facial coverings/masks will be updated as necessary.  Our team is still digesting the governor's masking order and will update you as soon as possible.  Here is a link to an al.com article on the order:  https://www.al.com/news/2020/07/gov-ivey-covid-update-today-press-conference-planned-for-11-am-watch-live.html

I would like to thank the entire administrative team, lead nurse Kelley Word, and so many others who have offered input into our district's plan to reopen our schools safely.

There are 138 school districts in Alabama, and we are all in this together...battling the same questions, concerns, and writing plans that all look very similar but with local caveats.  I've probably read 15-20 district plans myself that have already been publicly released (some of those are now out of date based on the new ADPH guidance released Monday evening and the governor's masking order issued just today).  Our plan very closely lines up with so many others on the basic expectations.  We use the state's Roadmap to Reopening as a guide/standard in writing our own plan with our own needs in mind.

In the district plan, you will find links to the individual school plans.  The school plans contain some of the same information from the district plan, but each school has certain issues and needs that had to be addressed individually outside the district plan.  Be sure to read both the district plan AND your school's plan.

We all know we are about to face the most challenging year ever, but I believe we will come out on the other side saying that it was the most rewarding year ever too!  There is so much comfort in times of trial and trouble to have faMily by your side.  That's how I feel about starting school in the age of COVID-19.

Here is our district plan presented on July 15:  https://www.smore.com/svpn0
Updates to the reopening plan on July 31:  https://www.smore.com/358t7

    Enjoy reading, and Go Trojans!

Covid-19 School Information

  • At present, our district leadership team is still digesting the information from Dr. Mackey and holding discussions about how the state's plan will impact our local reopening.  Our Board of Education approved a revision to the academic calendar to start school August 10th to provide more time to prepare for the reopening of our school district.

As school opens in the fall, please know that MSCS will be implementing practical health and wellness procedures in coordination with the state department of education and public health officials to mitigate the spread of COVID19.  As always, your child's safety and wellbeing are of utmost importance as we also work to provide a high quality educational experience.
